Germany, France Propose $543 Billion EU Coronavirus Recovery Fund

German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron hold a joint news conference via video on Monday to propose a European Union coronavirus recovery fund of 500 billion euros.

The plan is to raise the money through EU-backed bonds and be help the hardest-hit industries and regions. The issue of burden sharing remains controversial among several of the bloc’s member states.
