Most powerful storm in the region in two decades forces hundreds of thousands to flee and Covid-tackling efforts to shut down
Cyclone Tauktae has made landfall on India’s western coast, battering Gujarat state with heavy rain, storm surges and sustained winds of up to 165km/h (103mph).
The storm, the most powerful to hit the region in more than two decades, hit hours after authorities evacuated hundreds of thousands of people and suspended Covid-19 vaccinations in the area.
